December 31, 2011. It’s a wrap.

One year ago tomorrow, I made the decision to record a year in photos. One photo, taken each day, and hopefully uploaded to this page in a timely manner.

I kept my end of the bargain, in that I took a photo each day. Some are most definitely NOT works of art. Some have not managed to make it onto the proper website in a timely manner.

And one? It was erased when I gave my old phone to my husband and forgot to upload it before he wiped it and turned it into his phone. (Don’t worry, that one was most certainly not a work of art!)

Thanks though, for following me throughout the year, via my facebook page or my photo website

2012 will not have a photo a day, but I am thinking of looking at some of the monthly challenges/31 day challenges…

I hope the new year is fabulous for you!

Happy New Year!

A Year on the Appomattox

This idea came to me yesterday as I was wandering around Old Towne Petersburg, looking in vain for a broken beer bottle to photograph. A challenge on a photo site was for GLASS, I had a good idea– and, well, it didn’t happen because of all the wonderfully exciting changes in Old Towne. However, these positive changes are taking away all my tried and true, go-to locations for old, broken, cracked, peeling architecture. A good thing for the community! But for my eye?

I ended up at the park near the river, because the inhabitants of Petersburg seem to have been very good about tossing their trash in the proper location. I started shooting some images of the river—a dull, cloudy day, with the smallest hints of snow left over, and very little else going on.

For the next year, I am going to return to this location (weekly?) and really explore it. I won’t make any hard and fast rules, other than these shots will be from the banks of the Appomattox, (or within shouting distance) and I will probably limit myself to within an easy walking distance of the parking lot in either direction. This map, below, shows about where I will visit.

What do I expect to shoot? We will have to find out over the course of the next 52 weeks.

Maybe a photo a day challenge, tossed in on top? We will see!

It’s As Easy As ABC…

It’s not a new idea. It’s not even mine. I don’t know who started doing it first. Probably some child who was tired of deciphering shapes out of clouds on lazy sunny days.

But however it started, here it is today. The alphabet, in visual form, for your viewing pleasure!

The oldest of the images I have on my site dates back about 6 years; on occasion I will notice another letter; or go through periods of not noticing. I have gathered them, and am now aware that K is either a hidden letter out in the world or one that I just don’t look for!

I’ve created a few templates and created some WordArt that is ready to frame, as well.

DREAM faded-1

It’s an interesting exercise, looking at the world as a potential alphabet.  I think sometimes it would be neat to try to do full themes of letters, like the book set that I started…

Stop by The View From the Passenger Window and purchase the letters you need to spell your special word! A VERY unique holiday gift!

(I REALLY need to remember to update this blog more often! I do the other blog, and forget this. Probably a good thing I have no readers??)
