5.26.2011. Richmond Flying Squirrels. (We won 6-1.) There is something verging on mystical, sitting in the stands, under the lights, during the twilight of a day that reaches into the high 90’s. Any other outside activity (like, say, standing, or breathing) seems a substantial effort. But in the stands, listening to the crack of the bat (and, more honestly, to the thrumming of the ball hitting foul on one of the nosebleed seats overhead) that makes the air still and breathable. And of course, the purity of scoring in baseball. It matters not what you do, you MUST touch home plate to get a run. One point, no matter how weak or impressive the effort was–moving forward only, you touch that one spot and Viola! A run.

5.25.2011. “…any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.” Douglas Adams This Towel Day, my towel protected my thighs and back from hot leather in the sun-baked car.
