5.26.2011. Richmond Flying Squirrels. (We won 6-1.) There is something verging on mystical, sitting in the stands, under the lights, during the twilight of a day that reaches into the high 90's. Any other outside activity (like, say, standing, or breathing) seems a substantial effort. But in the stands, listening to the crack of the bat (and, more honestly, to the thrumming of the ball hitting foul on one of the nosebleed seats overhead) that makes the air still and breathable. And of course, the purity of scoring in baseball. It matters not what you do, you MUST touch home plate to get a run. One point, no matter how weak or impressive the effort was--moving forward only, you touch that one spot and Viola! A run.5.26.2011. Richmond Flying Squirrels. (We won 6-1.)
